Historic Community Traditions

For many years, Mission San Antonio de Padua hosted a series of beloved annual events that brought together parishioners, neighbors, supporters, and visitors from throughout California. These gatherings celebrated the Mission's history, culture, and community spirit while helping raise funds for its preservation.

The annual Cutting of the Roses & Brunch invited visitors to attend Mass and receive cuttings from the Mission's famous roses to plant in their own gardens. Crafts, face painting, and garden gifts made the event a favorite family tradition.

Mission Days offered visitors a step back in time with historical re-enactors portraying soldiers, artisans, and vaqueros on horseback. Members of the Salinan Nation participated alongside demonstrations of adobe brick making, acorn grinding, weaving, rope making, and music composed by Padre Juan Bautista Sancho.

The Fiesta brought the community together for barbecue, dancing, Mariachi and bluegrass music, homemade desserts, and artisan displays.

Evening in the Garden provided an enchanting setting for guests to enjoy local wines, fine food, and music beneath the lights and candles of the Padres' Courtyard Garden.

Although these annual events are no longer held, they remain an important part of the Mission's story and a reminder of the generations of supporters whose love and generosity helped preserve Mission San Antonio de Padua for the future.
